I use everything I learned in school. I Majored in Spanish and got a minor in Political Science. I am now in the law enforcement field at both the state and federal level. My current Group Supervisor was just one year ahead of me at School. We didn't know each other then but we had an immediate connection when he took over our group. Networking is huge in federal law enforcement and every office I visit has a BYU Alum it seems. I use my Spanish daily.

Questions & Answers

Who are the notable alumni?
1 Answer
  • Stephenie Meyer, author of the best-selling Twilight series, graduated from BYU in 1997 with a degree in English. Other famous attendees include Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder, Gymboree CEO Matthew K. McCauley, pro basketball player Danny Ainge, Ender’s Game author Orson Scott Card, actor Aaron Eckhart, and Jeopardy champion Ken Jennings. Graduate Mitt Romney became the first Mormon to be a major political party’s presidential nominee when the Republicans chose him to run against Barack Obama in 2012.

What is the campus setting like?
1 Answer
  • If you like to connect with nature and breathe in outdoor air, BYU might be your place. The 557-acre campus rests at the base of the Wasatch Mountains in Provo, Utah. Besides majestic views, you’ll also discover a top-notch performing arts center, one of the largest art museums in the Western United States, and an impressive range of athletic facilities for serious athletes and weekend warriors alike. What you won’t find at BYU—a Greek system, alcohol, or tobacco. Student life centers on religion, and an honor code supports values and conduct in line with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

    Answered by: Universities.com
What are the online learning and extension/adult learning opportunities?
1 Answer
  • Five hundred fifty (and counting!) course offerings provide a range of educational possibilities. BYU even has high school completion for students who have difficulties maintaining attendance in a traditional environment due to circumstances such as travel or illness. At the collegiate level, current BYU students can earn up to 36 semester hours toward their bachelor’s degree through independent/online study. Former students wishing to finish up their BYU degree can pursue a bachelor of general studies with a concentration in American studies, English, family life, history, management, or psychology.

    Answered by: Universities.com
What are the athletic highlights?
1 Answer
  • BYU last took home a national championship in football in 1984. But plenty of Cougars have been drafted by the NFL over the years, including Super Bowl XXIX MVP Steve Young. Two of the most successful teams in recent years have been men’s volleyball and women’s cross country. An extensive intramural program draws an impressive 25,000 students to sports such as kickball, inner-tube water polo, and dodgeball.

  • The institution’s self-professed goal is “to develop students of faith, intellect, and character who have the skills and the desire to continue learning and to serve others throughout their lives.” Since many students go on missions or perform other work on a global level, BYU has excelled in making in language education a priority. BYU also has received national recognition for its accounting program. Regardless of major, students take religious classes known as “doctrinal foundations.”
