There are dorms but the majority of students commute. Because it is both undergraduate and graduate there is much opportunity for networking and finding a career. Nice swimming pool and a great library.

  • Alumni
    Mechanical Engineering, Class of 2015

The dining areas need to be expanded the lines get way too long during peak eating times. The labs are good. The classrooms are good however, the school places classes inside classrooms that are too small to hold everyone enrolled.

The class sizes were nice and small

    5 Rated January 2016

What is the campus setting like?
1 Answer
  • Situated on 500 acres with a Baltimore address, the university, founded in the 1960s, is a collection of late 20th and early 21st century architecture. The campus boasts the Albin O. Kuhn Library and Gallery, the research center for the UMBC community and one of the principal art galleries in the region. To get to class, students walk down Academic Row, the central walkway. And for good luck after orientation, students head to the dining hall to rub the statue of the school’s mascot, a Chesapeake Bay Retriever named True Grit. Adventures off campus are easily achievable—UMBC lies 15 minutes from the Baltimore Inner Harbor and 30 minutes from Washington, D.C.
